A Chinese company called Xteink has unveiled a new compact e-reader that sticks to the back of an iPhone. Named Xteink X4, the portable e-book reader sports a 4.3-inch e-ink screen and magnetically attaches to the back of a phone with Qi2 or MagSafe support.
The e-book reader, which weighs 74 grams and can also be used as a standalone. Powered by an ESP32 microcontroller that supports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the Xteink X4 comes with a 32GB microSD card and has just 128MB of RAM. It is backed by a 650mAh battery that offers up to 14 days of battery life if you use it for one to three hours every day.

Since the e-book reader has a small screen, users will have to often turn the page and change lies. Xteink says the X4 can also be used to display boarding passes for flights, membership cards and calendars. For those wondering, the e-book reader supports ePUB, text files, BMP and JPG. The Xteink X4 e-book reader has no touchscreen but instead relies on physical buttons on the side and has no backlight, meaning you would need a light source nearby when reading at night.
However, unlike Amazon Kindle and Kobo, you won’t get access to a large library of e-books but instead will have to sideload DRM free content or either buy books in EPUB or TXT format. The Xteink X4 comes with two pre-installed fonts, but users have the option of installing their own fonts if they want.
Apart from the e-book reader, you also get a 32GB microSD card, screen protector and two magnetic stick-on rings in the box. Available in two colourways – black and white, the Xteink X4 is priced at $69, which rougly translates to Rs 6,206.
