Apple unveils HomePod mini in new ‘midnight’ black colour | Technology News

October 22, 2025

In the last few months, rumour had it that Apple was working on a new HomePod with a display that might also double up as a central hub for home automation. While that hasn’t happened, the Cupertino-based tech giant recently unveiled the HomePod mini in a new ‘midnight’ colourway.

The new colour replaces the Space Gray version unveiled earlier last year, you might struggle to differentiate between the two at first sight since they look the same. Apple says that the Space Gray variant of the HomePod Mini’s cover is made from 90 per cent recycled plastic, but the new Midnight version features 100 per cent recycled mesh fabric.

However, all hardware specifications and software features like the edge-to-edge touch panel, audio quality and smart home controls are the same as last year’s HomePod mini. Similar to the existing HomePod mini, it can detect temperature and humidity, double up as an intercom for Siri-enabled speakers and can even detect smoke and carbon monoxide and alert users on their iPhones.

Initially, the HomePod mini was available only in two colours – space gray and white, but Apple later added yellow, orange and blue. Launched in 2021, the HomePod mini is a smart speaker that works seamlessly with other Apple products.

As we noted in our review, the HomePod mini can easily fill up a small to medium-sized room with “acoustics to match the speakers and surroundings.” The only gripe is that it needs to be plugged into a power source at all times. It is currently available on the Apple website for Rs 10,900, but you might be able to save a few bucks by purchasing it from e-commerce platforms like Amazon.
